Energy Audits for Community Spaces

To introduce ourselves, we are The Community Council for Somerset, a charity supporting the communities of Somerset for over 90 years. We have received funding from Somerset Community Foundation  to deliver 15 subsidised energy audits across Somerset in 2023/24.

Who can apply?

These subsidised audits are for organisations who offer rentable spaces to the local community, this could include:

  • village halls
  • community buildings
  • community sports pavilions
  • reading rooms
  • scout huts
  • faith buildings etc.

The application process will be looking for a good geographic spread across the county, and a mix of size, age, fabric and use of building.

You will need to demonstrate that you are not a commercial business (for example, a sports centre, a commercial pub or a wedding venue) and that you offer a space to the general public for hire and there are no restrictions on who can use your facility.

Who will conduct the audits?

The audits take the form of a site visit (usually around 2 hours) by our associates, Inspired Efficiency, to assess your current infrastructure and energy usage.

This visit will be followed up by a written report detailing findings and recommendations to improve your energy efficiency, including the estimated capital costs to suggested improvements and the payback period (years).

The 17 successful applicants will receive their subsidised energy audit and a full report by the end of March 2024.

Is there a cost for the Audit?

Selected spaces will be asked to contribute £100 to the cost of the audit which is worth £500.

This project will also provide you with 1 hour of 121 support from CCS Community Advisors and a bespoke funding search to help you identify the best funders to support your improvements.

All organisations who apply will be offered membership to CCS Community Buildings Network for the rest of this year (until end of March 2024) for £50 (full year’s price usually £100).
