This guide’s all about how to keep warm if you’re at the point of cutting back on heating. But before you do, there are a few important things to consider:

  • It may be dangerous for older people, or those with asthma and other health conditions. If in doubt, consult your GP and follow their advice. Age UK told usit’s important older people do all they can to stay as warm as possible.
  • Will it impact your mental health? Some say a cold home affects their mental healthand motivation.
  • Rent your home? Check what your contract says about heating. Some landlords stipulate you must turn the heating on regularly, or keep the home at a minimum temperature.

What we are doing..

We have launched our ‘Knit for your Neighbour’ campaign this month – November 2023.

We are looking for individuals and groups to come together and make beautifully warm blankets that our Village Agents can distribute to the most vulnerable this winter. Keeping them warm and well.

All completed blankets can be dropped off at any of our Talking Café venues across Somerset. Blankets can then be collected through the Talking Café venues as well, or our team of Village Agents will make sure that blankets are delivered to the most vulnerable if unable to get to a Talking Cafe.

If you don’t knit or sew, but would like to donate a blanket, we will also accept new blankets with tags on, but we are unable to accept secondhand blankets.
